The deep emotion of Cleopatra’s most dramatic arias from Giulio
Cesare, one of Handel’s greatest heroic operas, is set in poignant
contrast with the serenity of Cleopatra’s death scene from an oratorio
of the composer’s later years. Operatic influences permeate
Vivaldi’s brilliant solo motets and psalm settings, fusing with the
virtuoso manner of his violin concertos qualities vividly demonstrated
in the variety of melodic invention and craftsmanship of two
of the finest from L’estro armonico.
Accademia Bizantina’s extensive concert tours have taken them
as far afield as Japan, Mexico and USA. Their many CDs include
recordings of sacred music by Vivaldi with highly respected
soprano Sandrine Piau who has had outstanding success in the
world of Baroque performance in concert and opera.
‘… All Vivaldi’s exuberance is here, laid before us with the
magnificent Piau.’ The Times
‘…the outstanding Accademia Bizantina … made every nerve
and sinew of the music shudder with joy …’ The Times
